Technical Highlights

• MBUX Hyperscreen (standard for EQS 580 4MATIC): Representing a digital and analogue design fusion, the MBUX Hyperscreen stretches from left to right A-Pillars, with three displays that appear to merge seamlessly, resulting in an impressive, curved screen band over 56 inches wide. Artificial intelligence (AI) and learn-capable software, enables the control and display concept to adapt to its user and make personalized suggestions for a variety of functions from infotainment, to comfort and even vehicle functions. The MBUX Hyperscreen not only benefits the driver as it is also an attentive assistant for the front passenger, who has their own display and operating area.
• Zero Layer: With the new zero-layer feature, the user no longer needs to scroll through sub-menus or give voice commands, as the most important applications are always available in a situational and contextual way at the top of the driver’s field of vision.
• Augmented Video for Navigation (standard): When the navigation function is active, a video image of the surroundings is enhanced with arrows or house numbers automatically superimposed directly onto the image in the media display.
• Augmented Reality Head-Up Display (optional): Augmented Reality for Head-Up Display further supplements MBUX and Augmented Video for Navigation with driver assistance systems and navigation information by generating and projecting images in the Head-Up Display, directly in the driver's field of vision.
• OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) Screen (standard): In the EQS, the OLED display is located behind a glass facing, and in combination with the actuators and pressure sensors behind it, provides a comprehensive control and display experience. Evaluation of the pressure exerted and haptic confirmation of touch commands makes extended functionalities possible. Furthermore, OLED panels emit light when subjected to an electric current, and do not require external background lighting, so power is only consumed where pixels light up, ensuring a better black level and even stronger contrast. When showing typical video sequences, OLED technology has up to 30 percent lower energy consumption than LCD technology.
• ENERGIZING Comfort (optional): enhanced health and wellness system boosts drivers' attentiveness and well-being while reducing sleepiness and stress through available programs that intelligently combine comfort and vehicle functions such as climate control and lighting.

  • Forest Glade: can help to escape the noisy daily routine and boost concentration. Bird sounds, rustling leaves and a gentle breeze create a feel-good ambience. The program is rounded off by warm music soundscapes and subtle fragrance.
  • Sounds of the Sea: can have a positive and relaxing effect through the combination of soft music soundscapes, wave sounds and seagull sounds. Warms and cools at the same time with the soothingly slow rhythm of the ocean waves combined with blasts of air from the air conditioning system.
  • Summer Rain: can serve as an acoustic oasis in noisy traffic, cooling and calming with sounds of raindrops on leafy canopies, distant thunder, pattering rain and ambient music soundscapes.
• Rear-Axle Steering: With standard rear-axle steering, the EQS is as maneuverable as a compact car. The steering angle at the rear axle is up to 10 degrees, allowing impressive maneuverability and agility on narrow city streets. At the same time the handling benefits from a virtual extension of the wheelbase at higher speeds:
• This extraordinary maneuverability and agility is also achieved by combining the rear-axle steering with a more direct front-axle steering ratio.
• Integrated actuation of the steering and brakes makes handling even more precise and stable in dynamic situations.
• Driver Assistance Systems (all systems standard): The EQS is standard-equipped with the latest driver assistance technology including intelligent hands-off detection. The Driver Assistance Package includes:
  • with Route-Based Speed Adaptation: the vehicle is able to reduce the speed in anticipatory mode by referencing map data ahead of curves, junctions, roundabouts, toll booths and exit roads.
  • with Active Emergency Stop Assist: brakes the vehicle to a stop in a controlled manner when the system recognizes that the driver is distracted for a longer period or cannot intervene.
  • and Active Lane Change Assist: assists the driver in a convenient and cooperative manner when making lane changes.
• Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® is an adaptive cruise control system that is able to automatically adjust your set speed for traffic ahead.
• Active Stop-and-Go Assist is able to keep the vehicle within the lane and maintain a safe distance with a high level of availability at speeds up to 35 mph. With the extended restart function, the vehicle can restart automatically up to one minute after coming to a stop.
• Active Steering Assist generates steering torque which helps the driver to stay in the center of the lane on straight roads and slight bends, taking its guidance from vehicles ahead and lane markings
• Active Brake Assist with Cross-Traffic Function is able to help the driver avoid impending collisions with vehicles ahead, or when turning across the oncoming lane, the system will also assist with stationary or crossing vehicles and pedestrians, if the driver fails to take action quickly enough.
• Turn-off function of Active Brake Assist: activation of Active Brake Assist with Cross-Traffic Assist when turning across the opposite lane. If there is a risk of collision when turning across the path of oncoming vehicles, the vehicle will be braked when traveling at low speeds.
• Active Speed Limit Assist with Traffic Sign Assist utilizes map data and information from Traffic Sign Assist to automatically adapt the vehicle's speed.
• Active Blind Spot Assist is able to provide the driver with a visual alert, plus an audible alarm when a turn indicator is activated, to warn the driver if another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area. It can also help avoid a collision by single-sided braking if a lane change is still attempted with an obstacle in the blind spot.
• with Exit Warning: offers enhanced protection when getting out of the car, a visual warning for passengers displayed in the exterior mirror if a car or bicycle is driving past the vehicle. If the driver tries to open the door, an additional audible warning sound and ambient door lighting will start to flash red.
• Active Lane Keeping Assist is able to warn the driver by means of vibrations of the steering wheel when the vehicle is unintentionally drifting out of its lane. If the vehicle passes over a solid line, or a dashed line when opposing traffic is detected, this system can pull the vehicle back into its lane by applying the brakes on one side.
• Car-to-X Communication is a system in which the vehicle simultaneously acts as a receiver and transmitter, conveying warning messages and evaluating driving conditions, effectively allowing the driver to “see” much further down the road.
• Active Parking Assist with PARTRONIC and Surround View System make it possible to enter and leave parallel and end-on parking spaces automatically.
• PRE-SAFE® PLUS with PRE-SAFE® Sound activates the PRE-SAFE safety measures when a collision from behind is imminent as well as applying the brakes when the vehicle is at a standstill in order to prevent subsequent accidents. PRE-SAFE® Sound emits a short interference signal if an imminent collision is detected, triggering a protective reflex in the human ear referred to as the “stapedius reflex,” which can help reduce hearing loss in the event of an accident.
• PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side preventatively moves the driver or front passenger up to 2.75- inches away from the impact zone to the side by rapidly inflating the seat’s side bolster, reducing the load on the occupant during an accident if a lateral collision is detected by the system.
