At its core is the purpose-built Mercedes‑Benz Operating System (MB.OS) supercomputer, which controls every aspect of the vehicle – from driver assistance to infotainment to driving performance – delivering faster processing, greater computing power and a deeply integrated experience. MB.OS integrates all systems into one intelligent ecosystem and is the foundation for MB.DRIVE and MBUX. Its connection to the Mercedes‑Benz Intelligent Cloud enables over-the-air updates for numerous vehicle functions, keeping the S‑Class up to date and refreshed. The result: the new S‑Class becomes an intuitive companion, delivering seamless interaction, exceptional performance and future-ready intelligence – creating a driving experience that is smarter and more personal than ever before.

MB.DRIVE: high-performance computing for state-of-the-art driver assistance and parking systems
The new S-Class is equipped with ten external cameras, five radar sensors and twelve ultrasonic sensors. These sensors work in conjunction with a high-performance control unit powered by MB.OS. Artificial Intelligence algorithms, which are trained on large amounts of fleet data, process the sensor data to understand the surrounding traffic conditions. The S-Class also features a new, water-cooled computer with sufficient power reserves for future functions.

The standard Digital Extra: MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST^1,4 can better and more quickly detect parking spots on both sides of the vehicle, including spots that are not marked by white lines. The system can also now assist with leaving a parking spot, even if the driver previously manually parked the vehicle. The Digital Extra: Reverse maneuvering function¹ enables the vehicle to automatically reverse the part of the route most recently driven, under certain conditions. While this feature is active, the image from the reversing camera and a graphic representation of the planned route are shown on the central multimedia display. This is particularly useful in driving situations where a maneuver to turn the vehicle around is not possible.

Digital Extra: MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST 360¹ with its 360-degree camera and new and improved surround view displays is also standard. The Digital Extra: Rim protection warning¹ displays a top-view distance alert when maneuvering to help the driver avoid damage to the wheels.

Introduction of fourth generation MBUX in S‑Class: exceptionally intuitive and personalized with AI
Powered by MB.OS, the new S-Class features fourth generation MBUX infotainment that integrates AI from Microsoft Bing Search, Google Cloud’s Automotive AI Agent and ChatGPT4o. With this multi-agent approach, the new MBUX Virtual Assistant revolutionizes the relationship between the vehicle and driver. Customers experience a more intuitive, more personal digital companion. The MBUX Virtual Assistant can conduct complex, multi-turn conversations – like one has with a friend – and has short-term memory. The MBUX Virtual Assistant is always present on the Zero Layer as a living avatar, featuring dynamic colors and animations, along with two avatar designs: a human-like avatar and “LittleBenz” for a more playful, emotional connection.

The enhanced MBUX Zero Layer displays the most relevant information, recently used apps¹ and suggestions. In the app grid, customers can arrange and group apps into personalized folders, much like a smartphone. A wide selection of apps are currently available, spanning audio, video, productivity and gaming.

MBUX Superscreen: immersive clarity for the driver, personalized entertainment for the front passenger
The new MBUX Superscreen, fitted standard, unites the 14.4-inch central display and the 12.3-inch front passenger display beneath a seamless glass surface. The 12.3-inch driver display, with optional 3D Instrument Cluster, visually floats behind the steering wheel with stunning clarity. The passenger display enables entertainment features for the front passenger while the vehicle is in motion, including streaming video and games, as long as the driver’s gaze is kept on the road and not the passenger display⁵. Curated high-resolution ambient styles and visual modes transform the MBUX Superscreen into an immersive, atmospheric digital space that enhances every journey.

Intelligent Navigation, MBUX Surround Navigation and MBUX Augmented Reality Head-up Display
In the new S-Class, MB.OS enables a navigation experience based on Google technology. The navigation solution developed as part of the partnership between Google and Mercedes-Benz is one of the first systems to integrate Google Cloud’s new Automotive AI Agent for in-vehicle conversation services with Google Maps.

MBUX Surround Navigation introduces a new dimension of visual communication. It displays a 3D representation of the vehicle and its surroundings in real-time on the driver display. Drivers benefit from enhanced situational awareness.

The optional MBUX Augmented Reality Head-up Display presents route guidance and relevant information within the driver’s field of view. This intuitive visual support can help drivers anticipate complex maneuvers, which can be especially helpful in unfamiliar cities or dense city traffic.

Ideas, organized: productivity redefined
MBUX Notes takes mobile productivity to a new level. Imagine preparing for an important meeting while en route: customers can dictate their thoughts hands-free in multiple languages, and MBUX Notes – powered by AI – summarizes and structures them into clear bullet points. Ideas can then be shared via Gmail or Outlook for further editing⁶. With strong data protection and no permanent storage by third parties, notes remain secure.

Refined interior comfort: outstanding comfort for every occupant

The art of control: intuitive interfaces meet timeless materials
In the new S‑Class, every journey becomes an experience of remarkable comfort and serene elegance. The “Welcome home.” feeling is tangible in every detail. Mercedes-Benz refined the interior in numerous areas to create a space where technology and craftsmanship intersect. The redesigned dashboard, featuring the new MBUX Superscreen, integrates seamlessly into the cabin. New elegant door trim elements and a reimagined center console showcase exquisite wood inlays and combine the finest materials with an ergonomic design. The console features new illuminated cup holders and easily accessible mobile phone compartments, allowing for the wireless charging of two smartphones side by side within reach of both the driver and front passenger. In addition, 100W USB-C charging ports provide additional fast, convenient mobile device charging options for all occupants⁷.

The new multifunction steering wheel features improved ergonomics and intuitive controls. Based on customer feedback, the new control concept features a rocker Digital Extra: Distance Assist DISTRONIC¹ as well as a roller for volume control. The capacitive switch panels are seamlessly integrated and provide tactile aids for better orientation.

First class productivity and entertainment
New dual MBUX remote controls for rear passengers, included with the optional Pinnacle and Pinnacle Plus Packages, provide effortless operation of comfort functions such as climate control and window shades, as well as the larger 13.1-inch displays of the optional MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System. These two displays also feature integrated HD cameras, making them ideal for video conferencing with Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Webex⁸.

In the new S‑Class, entertainment becomes effortless. The growing portfolio of apps⁸ includes streaming video platforms like Disney+ and Sony RIDEVU – available on both the front passenger display of the MBUX Superscreen and the rear dual displays of the optional MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment system.

The Burmester® 3D Surround Sound System, now significantly enhanced with elegant silver speakers in the mirror triangle, is fitted standard. On S 580e 4MATIC and S 580 4MATIC, the optional Burmester® High-End 4D Surround Sound System with Dolby Atmos®⁹ transforms the interior into an immersive sound experience that customers can hear and feel.

With the Audible and Amazon Music apps⁸, subscribers to these services can access an ever-expanding selection of audiobooks, originals, podcasts and music in Dolby Atmos®⁹. Audible and Amazon Music subscribers can access the full catalogs of both streaming services.

Exceptional thermal comfort and cleaner air for every journey
The innovative heated front seatbelts (standard on S 580e 4MATIC and S 580 4MATIC) provide a soothing warmth, delivering a gentle, reassuring embrace for front passengers. This innovation enhances every cold-weather journey and adds a subtle touch of indulgence. Conveniently activated via the seat heating button, this subtle innovation encourages the driver and front passenger to not wear bulky winter jackets while inside the vehicle, allowing optimal belt fit for enhanced safety. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference, ensuring every journey begins with a sense of well-being.

The S-Class also takes a significant step forward in climate comfort with new front Digital Vent Control introduced standard. The elegantly illuminated front climate control air vents automatically adjust to the selected ventilation setting. Customers can choose from preconfigured settings in addition to custom individual settings, which are saved to the customers’ MBUX user profile.

The ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL package with fine dust air filtration system (standard on S 580e 4MATIC and S 580 4MATIC) removes extremely fine particles, up to 1,200 times smaller than a single grain of table salt. This enables the cabin air to be purified roughly every 90 seconds¹⁰ creating a consistently cleaner environment for all occupants.

Sublime driving: precision, comfort and safety

New generation powertrains elevate performance and refinement to a new level
The new S-Class combines effortless performance with hallmark smoothness, thanks to a refined range of electrified powertrains. From 8- and 6-cylinder gasoline engines to a plug-in hybrid – every powertrain contributes to the signature remarkable smoothness that defines the S-Class experience.

The new V8 engine (M 177 Evo) in the Mercedes‑Benz S 580 4MATIC produces 530 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. Numerous engineering upgrades and mild-hybrid technology support seamless power delivery, recuperation and exceptional smoothness, while meeting the latest emissions standards. Thanks to a refined injection system, optimized intake and exhaust ports, revised intake camshaft, flat-plane crankshaft with a new firing order and improvements to the turbocharger compressor wheel and housing, the V8 is more responsive, efficient and delivers an even more refined driving experience.

In the Mercedes-Benz S 500 4MATIC, the new six‑cylinder engine (M 256 Evo) now responds even more dynamically, with torque increased up to 443 lb-ft; and briefly up to 472 lb-ft with overtorque. Overtorque enables a brief increase in torque for certain driving situations, like passing or dynamic acceleration. Key improvements to the new engine include a more powerful electric auxiliary compressor, optimized intake and exhaust ports and revised intake camshaft. Enhanced insulation measures provide superior noise and vibration damping, contributing to the exceptionally calm ambience at any speed.

Both engines feature a 23-hp integrated starter generator (ISG 2.0) that provides intelligent support at lower engine speeds. In combination with turbocharging, this ensures excellent power delivery. The system includes the 48-volt electrical system, which enables functions such as “coasting”, boost and recuperation to maximize efficiency. In addition, the ISG enables seamless operation of the start-stop function and the transition from coasting with the engine off to powerful propulsion with engine power to be almost imperceptible to the driver. At idle, the intelligent interaction between the ISG and the engine ensures exceptional smoothness.

The Mercedes‑Benz S 580 e 4MATIC plug-in hybrid is equipped with an upgraded inline six-cylinder engine and a powerful electric motor, enabling generous electric range and an impressive 576-hp combined system output – a 73-hp increase from the previous generation powertrain.

Intelligent damping and effortless maneuverability
Every journey in the new S‑Class is defined by benchmark quietness, refined comfort and effortless composure thanks to standard AIRMATIC air suspension or the optional E‑ACTIVE BODY CONTROL. Both systems now feature intelligent damping, a sophisticated innovation that enhances comfort by automatically adjusting the damping system right before the vehicle reaches a bump. The system differentiates between short, sharp road imperfections such as potholes – which are detected and communicated as warnings – and longer bumps that induce vertical body movement, where proactive damping adjustment can measurably enhance comfort. Equipped standard on all S-Class models, this intelligent damper regulation works in combination with the AIRMATIC or E‑ACTIVE BODY CONTROL suspension, using “Car-to-X” information¹¹ from other Mercedes‑Benz vehicles driving ahead – transmitted to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud in real time via the mobile network and anonymized. Mercedes‑Benz developed this function in-house and has applied for a patent.

4.5-degree rear-axle steering, now equipped standard, enhances maneuvering and agility. Optional 10-degree rear-axle steering further reduces the turning circle to 35.4 ft for even greater maneuverability at low speeds, such as effortlessly slipping into a tight parking space or navigating a narrow driveway. At higher speeds, the rear wheels steer in parallel with the front wheels to deliver reassuring stability and calm composure.

Safety as a hallmark: intelligent protection for every seat
The S-Class has consistently been at the forefront of safety. From crumple zones and ABS and ESP® to intelligent MB.DRIVE advanced driver assistance systems. The new S-Class continues to be the spearhead of this philosophy with state-of-the-art safety systems. Its enhanced adaptive restraint system includes PRE-SAFE® Impulse seatbelt pretensioners, dual-stage load limiters, advanced airbag inflators and an active vent in the passenger airbag. A passenger kneebag and optional rear seat frontal airbags expand protection to a global standard of up to 15 airbags, intelligently deployed by an airbag control unit that calculates the most beneficial response in every situation.

Rear passengers benefit from innovative optional beltbags that inflate during severe frontal impacts to reduce chest loads, while rear airbags can deploy to reduce loads on head and neck. PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side in the front row can recognize critical side impact driving situations at an early stage and initiate precautionary measures to optimize occupant positioning. Cars equipped with optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL can elevate the vehicle to distribute crash forces more effectively. Every detail – from restraint systems to intelligent deployment – underscores the S-Class commitment to uncompromising safety.

Luxury in perfect form: new radiator grille
One of the most striking changes is the even more prominent radiator grille, which is approximately 20 percent larger than the previous design. It now features four horizontal chrome bars instead of three, creating a particularly distinguished aesthetic. For the first time in the history of the S‑Class, the grille features an illuminated surround. Tiny, hot-stamped chrome stars provide a three-dimensional depth effect.

An optional illuminated standing Mercedes-Benz star on the hood is also available for the first time. A high-gloss black insert visually links the headlamps and radiator grille as a single unit. With the new twin-star headlamp design, the S‑Class boasts a distinctive look both by day and by night. Inside, the new dashboard, door trim and center console create an entirely new interior experience, elegantly blending digital and analog luxury at the highest level. A key highlight is the standard MBUX Superscreen, with floating driver display as well as a central and front driver display beneath seamless glass surface. This extends into the doors, creating a new sense of spaciousness. The central climate control air vents are now broader, forming a louvered band that also extends into the doors – a design cue echoed in the rear cabin. The newly designed center console with a larger trim surface emphasizes the premium materials of the new S-Class. The center console can now be individually specified with a wide range of trim finishes, including two new trim finishes: Natural Grain Amber Brown Wood with Herringbone Pattern and High-Gloss Silver Metallic Mixed Fabric.

The new optional “Beech Brown” upholstery color, inspired by the world of luxury fashion, is a highlight of the diverse interior color palette. Contrasting piping and stitching in light tones showcase its luxurious character to perfection.

New 20-inch 10 twin-spoke wheel manufactured with an innovative high-pressure casting method
The new optional 20-inch 10 twin-spoke wheel is produced using an innovative technology called ‘High-Pressure Casting’, which uses a precision-engineered mold to form complex aluminum components with exceptional accuracy and reduced weight, enabling new design possibilities and improved performance. Compared to traditional low-pressure die casting, the innovative ‘High-Pressure Casting’ allows significantly reduced draft angles, noticeably reduced castable thicknesses and more precise contours, resulting in very fine surfaces and therefore characteristic design themes. ‘High-Pressure Casting’ also demonstrates advantages of sustainability, enabling lightweight construction and reduced machining requirements, thereby leading to a noticeable reduction in aluminum usage. Compared to traditional low-pressure die casting, the energy consumption is significantly decreased. Furthermore, a higher percentage of recycled aluminum can be utilized.

Other new wheel options are also available, including a new 19-inch five-spoke wheel with black accents, new 20-inch AMG cross-spoke wheel in several finishes and a new 21-inch AMG multi-spoke wheel color option, giving customers even more opportunity for personalization.

The completely redesigned network of powerful computers connected by high-speed ethernet integrates every sensor, control unit and feature in the car. This advanced network enables faster processing and greater intelligence, delivering an intuitive experience at every moment. Instant responses, seamless connectivity and effortless updates keep the S‑Class up to date and refreshed.

Boardroom on wheels: MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System makes every seat a meeting space
The S-Class elevates its role as the ultimate business sedan, offering productivity and entertainment upgrades for both front and rear passengers. Rear occupants benefit from an improved operating concept, with two larger 13.1-inch screens of the optional MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System and available new dual MBUX remote controls – one for each rear seat passenger – allowing fully individual control. With the new dual MBUX remote controls, included with the optional Pinnacle and Pinnacle Plus Packages, rear passengers can effortlessly control the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment, adjust the volume, set the ambient lighting, adjust the rear climate control settings and operate seat functions such as adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage, and even operate the power sunshades for the rear and rear side windows. The remotes are stored in a docking station with a lock/unlock mechanism in the fold-down armrest and remain fully operable when removed – allowing passengers, for example, to recline the seat, start a massage and adjust the temperature while selecting content on the rear screens, without needing to reach for a display.

The latest update also introduces an enhanced Teams Meetings app¹ for the S‑Class, now with expanded features and, for the first time, the ability to use the new front interior camera with a wide-angle option or the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment’s full HD camera for video calls. This means that whether customers are leading a meeting from the driver’s seat or joining a video conference from the rear cabin, other meeting participants can see them clearly – enabling seamless collaboration. Drivers can use the in-car camera while the vehicle is in motion, allowing other participants to see them during a meeting. Given the brand's emphasis on safety, the use of the camera complies with the laws of the respective country and has been approved for use while the vehicle is in motion. To prevent driver distraction, the meeting video automatically turns off as soon as the camera is activated. Drivers do not see shared screens or slides – and the camera can be switched off at any time.

Personalized infotainment: MBUX Zero Layer and new operating concepts
With the standard MBUX Superscreen, the S‑Class offers a wealth of genuinely valuable functions. The operating and display concept is tailored not only to the vehicle, but also to individual customer preferences, following the design principle of reduction to the essentials. The enhanced MBUX Zero Layer on the central display shows the most relevant information and suggestions. In the app grid, apps can be moved and grouped into individually named folders, similar to a smartphone. When an app is open, a simple swipe to the left returns to the app grid. Another swipe takes the user back to the Zero Layer. Customers can also access the Zero Layer directly at any time via the home button.

Several attractive ambient styles are available, enhancing the unique effect of the wide display. High-resolution welcome animations were crafted with great attention to detail by Mercedes‑Benz UI designers. The impressive background images span a wide range across all front screens – from calm to intense, cool to warm and technical to emotional – enabling customers to create a personal atmosphere inside the vehicle. The colors of the driver display, including the gauges, and the ambient lighting are harmonized with these emotional motifs thanks to MB.OS.

The MBUX Virtual Assistant with “Multi-Agent Approach”: intelligent, easy to talk to and empathetic
With generative AI, the new MBUX Virtual Assistant enables complex, natural conversations – like one would have with a friend – and has a short-term memory. It can be activated with the “Hey Mercedes” keyword or, when the driver is alone in the vehicle, the “Just Talk” function, which responds to voice commands without a keyword. AI from Microsoft, Google ChatGPT and Microsoft unites the collective knowledge of the internet, enabling the intelligent assistant to seamlessly access different sources of information within the same conversation and retain context, allowing customers to continue conversations and retrieve information during a journey.

The MBUX Virtual Assistant is always present on the Zero Layer as a “living” avatar. In the standard setting, it is a blue color, or silvery blue on models with the optional AMG Line package. The colors of the avatar represent the emotions of the Virtual Assistant. For example, the assistant reacts positively to “thank you” (green) or shows joy when telling a joke (colorful). With various animations, the virtual assistant also signals whether it is currently speaking, listening or processing information. Movement, brightness, intensity and color interact seamlessly to communicate intuitively with the driver.

In addition to the Mercedes-Benz star avatar, there are two other avatar designs: the first is a human-like avatar, which emerges from a cloud of stars. It embodies intelligence in a technologically futuristic manner. The other avatar nicknamed “LittleBenz,” with its expressive face, creates an even stronger personal connection, encouraging playful interaction.

New steering wheel controls, wireless charging within easy reach and illuminated cup holders
The new multifunction steering wheel features improved ergonomics and intuitive controls. Based on customer feedback, the new control concept features a rocker Digital Extra: Distance Assist DISTRONIC¹ as well as a roller for volume control. The capacitive switch panels are seamlessly integrated and provide tactile aids for better orientation.

The new front center console integrates easily accessible dual wireless smartphone charging and a generous storage area. Two smartphones can be charged wirelessly side by side. The new illuminated cup holders provide an improved hold for bottles and cups of different sizes and add a subtle ambient light accent.

Innovative heated seatbelts
The innovative heated front seatbelts (standard on S 580e 4MATIC and S 580 4MATIC) provide a soothing warmth, delivering a gentle, reassuring embrace for the driver and front passenger. Thin filaments acting as electrical conductors are integrated into the seatbelt. The seatbelts can quickly warm up and be conveniently activated using the heated seat controls. Automatic activation linking the heated seatbelts to the heated seat button can be controlled via the central multimedia display. This subtle innovation encourages the driver and front passenger to not wear bulky jackets while inside the vehicle, allowing optimal belt fit for enhanced safety.

With heated front seatbelts, Mercedes‑Benz brings a new comfort feature into a series production vehicle that was first showcased in the ESF 2019 experimental safety vehicle. This illustrates the Mercedes‑Benz way: pioneering innovations debuting in research and concept vehicles, then consistently and systematically transferred into series production. For more than 140 years, this continuous innovation process has shaped the brand – from visionary studies to everyday customer benefits.

Automatic climate control front air vent adjustment with Digital Vent Control
The S-Class takes a major step forward in climate comfort with new Digital Vent Control. Introduced as standard equipment, the innovative system automatically adapts the position of the front climate control air vents and even allows for pre-conditioning of the interior. The system utilizes compact actuators in each front air vent, featuring two small electric motors to control the vertical and horizontal louvers.

Customers can select preset positions for the front air vents in MBUX (“Head,” “Body,” “Evenly Distributed” and “Individual”). The hybrid operating concept also allows the front air vents to be adjusted by hand. When the front air vents are adjusted manually, the system automatically switches to the “Individual” setting. The system saves this custom setting and can store up to eight personalized settings in the customer’s MBUX user profile. With Active Defrost for the side windows, the vent nozzles are positioned in the direction of the side windows. During pre-conditioning, airflow from the front air vents is directed to hot or cold surfaces. The front air vents also become part of the welcome sequence by moving from the standard position upon starting the vehicle.

Cleaner cabin air
The ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL package with fine dust air filtration system (standard on S 580e 4MATIC and S 580 4MATIC), the new S-Class continuously works to clean the cabin air – fully renewing the cabin air roughly every 90 seconds10. At the heart of the system is an advanced filtration concept, which helps ensure clean air and can reduce unpleasant odors. The incoming outside air is effectively cleaned with the help of an advanced filtration concept. The outside air flows through a pre-filter that traps larger particles. Next, air flows through an interior, enabling excellent filtration. While the pre-filter only cleans the outside air in the first filtration stage, the interior filter is also active in recirculation mode.

ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL intelligently monitors air quality inside and outside the vehicle using fine dust and air quality sensors. Through intelligent networking of sensor data, the system detects nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO) and fine dust of particles. The capability of a system to filter impurities is often categorized using a PM, or particulate matter, scale which represents the size of the matter in microns. For scale, a typical human hair is around 50 microns, dust and pollen are around 10 microns, and the system can filter particles as small as 2.5 microns, or PM2.5, in the outside air. If the measured values of the air quality and fine dust sensor reach a certain range, the climate control system can automatically switch between fresh air and recirculation mode to provide better air quality in the interior.

Personalized seat comfort for front and rear occupants
For optimal seating comfort and individual adjustment, the front seats of the S‑Class feature up to 19 motors, providing a personalized experience. Six different massage programs – classic, relaxing, waves, deep waves, hot stone and activating – use vibration motors and can enhance the effect of a relaxing hot-stone-style massage by combining seat heating with the inflatable air chambers of the standard active multicontour seats.

With approximately 250 LEDs, it is linked to the driver assistance systems and can visually support system alerts. It also provides feedback when operating the climate control or the intelligent voice assistant. New state-of-the-art drivetrains: Meticulous refinement in technology
The new S-Class sets a new benchmark for advanced powertrains, offering a range of sophisticated engines that deliver an impressive balance of performance, efficiency and refinement.

At the top of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class lineup is the latest evolution of the V8 engine, the M 177 Evo, available in the S 580 4MATIC. The engine delivers 530 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, available across a broad rpm range from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. Thanks to a series of engineering enhancements – including a refined injection system, optimized intake and exhaust ports, revised intake camshaft and improvements to the compressor wheel and turbocharger housing – the V8 responds more quickly, operates more efficiently and delivers power more smoothly than ever before. A flat-plane crank with a new firing order reduces rotating mass and internal vibration, allowing the engine to rev more freely and deliver power with greater immediacy and refinement. Integrated mild-hybrid technology provides additional torque at low speeds, enables energy recuperation during braking and supports seamless engine starting, all while contributing to the S‑Class’s signature quietness and smoothness. Additional insulation measures further reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), ensuring a tranquil cabin environment even under acceleration or at high speeds. The V8 is also equipped with advanced exhaust aftertreatment systems, including a globally standard particulate filter, to ensure compliance with the latest emissions standards.

The six-cylinder engine (M 256 Evo) in the S 500 4MATIC responds even more dynamically and delivers an even more assured driving experience, thanks to increased torque – especially under the partial load. Torque is now increased to 443 lb-ft; with up to 472 lb-ft available using overtorque. Overtorque enables a brief increase in torque for certain driving situations like passing or dynamic acceleration. These improvements are based on a new, more powerful electric auxiliary compressor, cylinder head with optimized intake and exhaust ports and a revised intake camshaft. In addition, combustion processes and exhaust aftertreatment have been further refined. Additional insulation measures have also improved NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) characteristics compared to the previous engine. The result is a smoother, quieter and more dynamic driving experience.

Both engines feature a 23-hp integrated starter generator (ISG). The ISG provides intelligent support at lower engine speeds and in combination with turbocharging, this ensures excellent power delivery. The system includes a 48-volt electrical system, which enables functions such as “coasting,” boost or recuperation to maximize efficiency. In addition, the engines start quickly and comfortably with the help of the ISG, which allows for operation of the start-stop function and the transition from “coasting” with the engine stationary to powerful propulsion with engine power to be almost imperceptible. The intelligent interaction between the ISG and the combustion engine also delivers exceptionally smooth operation at idle.

The plug-in hybrid S 580e 4MATIC combines the upgraded six-cylinder engine with a powerful electric motor, delivering up to 576 hp of combined system output – a 73-hp increase from the previous engine generation powertrain – and up to 553 lb-ft of combined system torque.

Rear-axle steering and intelligent damping
Now standard across the entire S-Class range, 4.5-degree rear-axle steering enhances maneuverability and stability. Optional 10-degree rear-axle steering reduces the turning circle of the new S-Class to 35.4 ft. At higher speeds, the rear wheels steer in parallel with the front wheels to deliver reassuring stability and calm composure.

The new S‑Class is equipped standard with AIRMATIC air suspension featuring intelligent damping, which significantly enhances ride comfort by automatically adjusting the damping system right before the vehicle reaches a bump. The system differentiates between short, sharp road imperfections such as potholes – which are detected and communicated as warnings – and longer bumps that induce vertical body movement, where proactive damping adjustment can measurably enhance comfort. The improvement in ride quality is particularly noticeable for rear seat passengers. This intelligent damper regulation works in combination with the AIRMATIC or E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL suspension. Mercedes‑Benz developed this function in-house and has applied for a patent.

The damping adjustment is based on “Car-to-X” information¹¹ from other Mercedes‑Benz vehicles driving ahead – transmitted to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud in real time via the mobile network and anonymized. Car-to-X refers to communication between vehicles. By leveraging the sensors of other Mercedes-Benz cars, the technology significantly extends the coverage of the vehicle’s own radar or camera systems, effectively enabling the vehicle to “see around corners.”

Next generation DIGITAL LIGHT system
The new S‑Class is fitted standard with next generation DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps. Innovative micro-LED technology and a powerful new chip produce a larger high-resolution field of illumination, delivering brighter high beams compared with the previous system. The light module is also up to 50 percent more efficient than the previous generation. The headlamps also weigh 25 percent less than the previous design thanks to the more compact micro-LED design and use of a single control unit. All software modules are integrated into the Mercedes‑Benz Operating System (MB.OS) and have been developed predominantly in-house.

The ULTRA WIDE high beam provides a very wide light distribution for improved visibility. Another key innovation is the Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus with partial high beam function – available in the U.S. for the first time – that improves detection of poorly lit road users without dazzling others. Combined with camera data and map information, the cornering light adapts more precisely to road layouts – all powered by the Mercedes‑Benz Operating System (MB.OS).

Digital Extra: Projection Function for DIGITAL LIGHT¹ is also available as an option. Alongside the familiar projection features for lane departure warnings, the S‑Class now adds a new cold weather warning with a snowflake that is projected onto the road surface. The Projection Function also greets and bids farewell to the driver with animations from the headlamps and taillights when the vehicle is locked, unlocked or the engine is switched off. The animations, which now include “Digital Rain” and “Star Wave” designs, can be activated via the central multimedia display.

Mercedes-Benz has already tested this lighting technology for the S‑Class in its new light tunnel at the Immendingen Testing and Technology Center, officially opened in early 2025. Regardless of the time of day or weather, experts there can evaluate the headlamp light distribution of future Mercedes‑Benz models from a customer perspective under reproducible conditions. The drive-through light tunnel, over 328 ft long, features a full-scale country road with dashed center lines and side markings – making it one of the longest facilities of its kind in the automotive industry.
