Mercedes‑AMG presents the extensively updated 2027 AMG GLE 63 S and AMG GLS 63, further sharpening the performance credentials of its SUV portfolio. Arriving at U.S. dealerships in fall 2026, these top models combine hallmark AMG V8 power with state‑of‑the‑art technology, exclusive design and an especially broad spread between sportiness, comfort and everyday usability.

At the heart of these models is the new, thoroughly updated AMG M177 EVO engine. The 4.0‑liter V8 biturbo unit embodies Mercedes‑AMG performance DNA to perfection. A number of engineering enhancements mark a decisive step in keeping this iconic engine future-proof; ready to meet regulations while continuing to deliver exceptional performance. Updates to the engine include a new flat‑plane crankshaft, modified intake camshaft, optimized fuel injection system and state‑of‑the‑art exhaust aftertreatment. Like its predecessor, the M177 EVO is built in Affalterbach according to the “One man, one engine” philosophy.

“Our V8 is a central component of our performance DNA and the ideal heart for the new GLE 63 S and GLS 63. For years, the V8 has stood for impressive performance and great popularity among our customers. With the new generation M177 EVO, we have fundamentally revised the power unit and secured its presence in our portfolio for the long term. The result is an engine that impresses with agile response, strong performance and a pronounced appetite for revs – while at the same time meeting increasingly demanding regulations worldwide.”

Michael Schiebe, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes‑Benz Group AG,
Production, Quality & Supply Chain Management,
and Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes‑AMG GmbH

With the M177 EVO in the new AMG GLE 63 S and AMG GLS 63, AMG is laying the foundation for a new generation of V8 engines that are both more powerful and more efficient. The basis for this balance is the new flat‑plane crankshaft that reduces rotating mass, improves the engine’s ability to rev and ensures particularly precise response.

With 603 hp, the M177 EVO delivers the same impressive output as its predecessor. 627 lb-ft of torque is available across a wide range of engine speeds – from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. Thanks to state‑of‑the‑art exhaust aftertreatment, including a particulate filter fitted standard worldwide, the high performance AMG engine also meets the latest stringent emissions standards.

Further technical updates include an optimized injection system, newly designed intake and exhaust ports, a revised intake camshaft, as well as improvements to the compressor wheel and turbocharger housing. These measures also optimize throttle response, increase efficiency and harmonize power delivery.

The extensive updates to the M177 EVO are complemented by mild-hybrid technology featuring a new generation integrated starter generator (ISG 2.0) and an additional 48‑volt electrical system. The ISG supports power delivery at lower engine speeds with up to 23 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. It also enables recuperation during deceleration and seamless operation of the start/stop function.

Impressive acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds (AMG GLE 63 S) and 3.9 seconds (AMG GLS 63), along with an electronically limited 174-mph top speed, underscore the exceptional performance of both models.

New AMG Performance exhaust system
The AMG Performance exhaust system is also newly developed. It contributes decisively to the V8’s hallmark acoustic character and underscores the emotional appeal of the AMG GLE 63 S and AMG GLS 63. With the system’s standard exhaust valve control, the driver can adjust the sound profile – from a subtle exhaust note in Comfort mode to a highly dynamic expression in the Sport+ drive program.

The system’s exhaust valves also allow the sound to be adapted to the current driving situation. The sound is influenced by the selected AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive program or the button on the central control panel of the center console.

Emotional performance design with an unmistakable AMG front end
The new performance design gives the AMG GLE 63 S and AMG GLS 63 an even greater visual presence. The completely redesigned front end, with its characteristic AMG-specific radiator grille, enlarged air intakes for effective cooling of the powerful V8 and LED headlamps with exclusive AMG light signature, sharpens the distinctive appearance of the high performance models.

The rear of the vehicles is defined by the striking twin tailpipes of the AMG Performance exhaust system. The characteristic diffuser design of the rear fascia further emphasizes the dynamic, performance‑oriented appearance.

Sporty, comfortable and off‑road capable: AMG RIDE CONTROL+ suspension
Standard AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension with adaptive damping continuously adapts to the driving situation. AMG-specific elastokinematics and continuously variable damping control enable a firm Sport setting for the best possible dynamic driving characteristics, as well as a Comfort setting for more compliant damping. In the “Trail” drive program, the ride height is increased by 2.2 inches for off‑road driving, while the damping control, AMG Active Ride Control and 4MATIC+ all‑wheel‑drive system are specifically adapted to the driving situation.

The AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension on the AMG GLE 63 S and AMG GLS 63 maintains a constant ride height – regardless of payload. When the driver selects the “Sport” or “Sport+” AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive program, the ride height lowers by 0.4 inches. In the “Comfort” drive program, the ride height is lowered by 0.4 inches at speeds of 75 mph and above to minimize drag and optimize efficiency. This also enhances handling stability due to the lower center of gravity.

When increased ground clearance is necessary, the ride height can be raised by up to 0.8 inches at the push of a button when parked with the engine running and while driving.

Agile handling thanks to AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL active roll stabilization
Both the AMG GLE 63 S and AMG GLS 63 are equipped with AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL active roll stabilization. The system significantly reduces body roll in corners and contributes to particularly stable, precise handling.

The suspension and steering respond with high precision to the respective driving situation and road surface condition. To achieve this, active electromechanical stabilizers with AMG‑specific control are fitted on both axles. Sensors analyze the driving situation and road surface up to 1,000 times per second. Based on this, body movements are compensated immediately with the highest precision. When cornering or driving over uneven road surfaces, AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL reduces roll effects to a minimum. The compensating stabilization also benefits off‑road driving. The newly developed ESP® system offers even more precise control strategies for maximum driving enjoyment.

AMG locking rear differential: Intelligent power distribution for maximum driving dynamics
AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all‑wheel drive with fully variable torque distribution ensures optimum traction under all conditions. The front and rear driveshafts have been specially designed for the high torque of the M177 EVO engine and ensure maximum durability even under extreme conditions.

Together with the standard, electronically controlled AMG locking rear differential, the AMG GLE 63 S and AMG GLS 63 are even more agile. The locking differential distributes power optimally between the two rear wheels when cornering. It continuously adapts to the driving situation and the selected ESP® mode. The locking differential also reduces slip at the inside rear wheel without the need for braking intervention – so no power is lost.

When wheel slip is detected at the rear wheels, more torque is distributed to the wheel with better grip to reduce slip. The locking differential also improves traction and stability in all driving situations – from acceleration from a standstill to dynamic cornering and braking – as well as in slippery weather conditions such as snow. When maneuvering at low speeds or in city traffic, the electronically controlled locking rear differential offers greater refinement compared to a mechanical locking design.

AMG DYNAMIC SELECT: A wide range of driving experiences
The AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs enable the driver to select a variety of driving characteristics at the touch of a button.

  • “Comfort” focuses on an overall comfortable setup with particularly smooth gear changes and steering.
  • “Sport” and “Sport+” allow for a gradual increase in dynamics. The transmission features quicker gear changes. In addition, the rev-matching function is activated, which together with overrun creates a sporty, emotional driving and sound experience. The suspension and steering are tuned more firmly and throttle response is more direct.
  • “Trail” and “Slippery” are designed for optimum off‑road capability and ideal traction on icy or snow-covered roads. Smooth gear changes and gentle throttle response reduce drive power to suit the driving surface and speed.
  • “Individual” allows the driver to adjust all parameters according to personal preferences.

Exclusive wheel selection
Customers can choose from a wide range of AMG and AMG forged wheel designs. For the AMG GLE 63 S, up to 22-inch wheels are available, including a new 22-inch AMG forged cross-spoke wheel finished in striking Tech Gold.

The AMG GLS 63 also offers even greater road presence with two new wheel options, extending up to 23 inches. These include a new 23-inch multi-spoke design as well as a distinctive five-spoke monoblock wheel, both of which underscore the vehicle’s commanding, performance-focused appearance.

High quality, performance-oriented and digital: The interior
