Technical Highlights

  • 48-Volt onboard electrical system technology: The engines found in the GLE 450 4MATIC, GLE 580 4MATIC and AMG GLE 53 are supplemented with a powerful and efficient Integrated-Starter Generator. This integrated electric motor system assists the combustion engine by adding up to 21 hp for short periods of time. It also assists when accelerating, making driving without the combustion engine turned on possible ("sailing") and supplies the battery with power by means of high-efficiency recuperation. By doing so, it makes fuel savings possible that were previously the exclusive domain of high-voltage hybrid technology.
  • E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL is an all-new available suspension system powered in part by the 48V battery and developed by Mercedes-Benz. As the only system on the market where the spring and damping forces can be individually controlled at each wheel, E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL is the world's most intelligent SUV suspension that uses Road Surface Scan and a curve inclination function that make an extraordinary level of comfort possible. The hydropneumatics generate dynamic forces that overlay the air suspension forces and actively support and dampen the vehicle body during linear and lateral acceleration or when driving on uneven roads.
  • AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension based on AMG RIDE CONTROL+: Redeveloped in Affalterbach, the standard air suspension and the adaptively adjustable ADS+ (Adaptive Damping System) combine great agility with maximum traction and high everyday comfort. The damping characteristics can be preselected in three stages - "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport+", allowing a clear distinction between high long-distance comfort and sporty driving dynamics. The AMG-specific dynamics configuration is greatly enhanced by the active roll stabilization system, ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL with 48-volt power. This system precisely compensates for changes in vehicle movement.
  • Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX): A completely new multimedia system featuring innovative technology based on Artificial Intelligence and an intuitive operating system. MBUX technology is pioneering a new level of in-car experience. MBUX can be operated by Voice Control, the touchscreen (a first for Mercedes-Benz vehicles), Touchpad and Touch Control Buttons on the steering wheel. The system has learning capabilities and intelligent Voice Control with Natural Language Understanding and a verbal cue of "Hey Mercedes" which can be used to wake the system up.
    • MBUX Interior Assistant allows for intuitive and natural operation of different comfort and MBUX functions by movement recognition. A camera in the overhead console registers movements of the driver's and front passenger's hands and arms. When a hand approaches the touchscreen or the Touchpad on the center console, the media display changes and individual elements are highlighted.
  • AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive: The new GLE 63 S is equipped for maximum traction and dynamics with AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive. The intelligent steering variably links the permanently driven rear axle with the front axle and continually calculates the optimum torque distribution – depending on the driving situation and the driver's wishes. The all-wheel drive thus improves longitudinal dynamics as well as traction and lateral dynamics. The outcome: more powerful acceleration from a standstill and for short sprints. The system is capable of a power distribution between front and rear axle from 0:100; up to 50:50.
  • AMG DYNAMIC SELECT: The GLE 63 S has seven drive programs: Comfort, Sport, Sport +, Individual, RACE, Trail and Sand. AMG DYNAMIC SELECT adapts important parameters such as the responsiveness of the engine and transmission, the characteristic curve of the accelerator and steering, the suspension damping and even the vehicle's sound. Selected using the paddle in the center console or the AMG steering wheel buttons, the programs are displayed in the instrument cluster and on the multimedia display.
  • AMG DYNAMICS is also integrated into the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs. In "Basic", "Advanced" and "Pro" levels, it influences the control strategies of the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) or the all-wheel drive. The intelligent pilot control anticipates the desired vehicle behavior based on the driver's actions and sensor data.
  • Latest-generation of our Advanced Driver Assistance System: the enhanced intelligent hands-off detection includes sensing via the Touch Control Buttons and is sensitive to specific conditions and can be activated in a wide range of speeds.
    • Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® is able to follow a vehicle in front at a pre-selected distance
    • Active Stop-and-Go Assist enables the GLE to recognize traffic jams at an early stage, actively supporting the driver in stop-and-go traffic up to approximately 37 mph
    • Active Steering Assist can now actively intervene even if road lines are unclear or non- existent at certain speeds; it can now also function in curves with a tighter radius
      • Active Emergency Stop Assist is able to brake the vehicle to a standstill in its lane if it detects that the driver is no longer actively driving the vehicle while it is on the move with Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Active Steering Assist engaged. It can now unlock the doors when the vehicle is stationary to allow first aid responders immediate access to the vehicle's interior
      • Active Lane Change Assist is a radar-and-camera-based system that aids the driver when changing lanes. When a turn is indicated, this feature will aid with steering into the adjacent lane if it detects the lane is empty
    • Active Speed Limit Assist can adapt vehicle speed to identified speed limits and can now adjust pre-emptively when speed limits are going to change
    • Route-Based Speed Adaptation is able to reduce the speed in anticipatory mode by referencing the vehicle's map data ahead of bends, junctions, roundabouts, toll booths and exit roads
  • Active Brake Assist with Cross-Traffic Function is an advanced braking system capable of mitigating many types of danger, such as standing and crossing pedestrians or bicyclists, traffic up ahead of the vehicle, or even crossing from side to side
    • Turn-off function of Active Brake Assist: activation of Active Brake Assist with Cross-Traffic Assist when turning across the opposite lane. If there is a risk of collision when turning across the path of oncoming vehicles, the vehicle will be braked when traveling at low speeds
  • Evasive Steering Assist assists the driver by adding calculated steering torque to aid in steering when a driver deliberately or instinctively performs an evasive maneuver around a pedestrian
  • Active Blind Spot Assist is able to provide the driver with a visual alert, plus an audible alarm, when a turn indicator is actuated to warn of a side collision, and helps the driver to avoid an imminent side impact by single-sided braking
  • Active Lane Keeping Assist is able to warn the driver by means of vibrations of the steering wheel when the vehicle is unintentionally drifting out of its lane
  • Car-to-X Communication is a system in which the vehicle simultaneously acts as a receiver and transmitter, conveying warning messages and evaluating driving conditions, effectively allowing the driver to "see" much further down the road
  • PRE-SAFE® PLUS activates the PRE-SAFE safety measures when a collision from behind is imminent
  • PRE-SAFE® Sound omits a short interference signal if an imminent collision is detected, triggering a protective reflex in the human ear referred to as the "stapedius reflex," which can help reduce hearing loss in the event of an accident
  • PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side preventatively moves the driver or front passenger up to 2.75-inches away from the impact zone to the side by rapidly inflating the seat's side bolster, reducing the load on the occupant during an accident if a lateral collision is detected by the system
  • ENERGIZING Comfort: enhanced health and wellness functionality boosts drivers' attentiveness and well-being while reducing sleepiness and stress
