CLS Technical Highlights:

• 48-Volt onboard electrical system technology with EQ boost (Integrated Starter Generator)
• The 3.0-Liter inline 6 cylinder engine found in the CLS 450 and CLS 450 4MATIC and the AMG-enhanced 3.0-Liter inline 6 cylinder engine found in the CLS 53 are supplemented with a powerful and efficient integrated starter generator. The CLS 53 is further supplemented by a powerful auxiliary compressor. This integrated electric motor system, known as EQ boost, assists the combustion engine by adding up to 21 hp for short periods. EQ boost also assists when accelerating, makes driving without the combustion engine possible ("sailing") and supplies the battery with power by means of high-efficiency recuperation. By doing so it makes fuel savings possible that were previously the exclusive domain of high-voltage hybrid technology.
• Driver Assistance Systems: the enhanced intelligent hands-off detection includes sensing via finger pads and is sensitive to specific conditions; can be activated in a wider range of speeds:
• Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® is able to follow a vehicle in front at a pre-selected distance at wider range of speeds
• Active Steering Assist functions at a wider range of speeds and can now actively intervene even if road lines are unclear or non-existent at certain speeds; can now function in curves with a tighter radius
• Active Emergency Stop Assist brakes the vehicle to a standstill in its lane if it detects that the driver is no longer actively driving the vehicle while it is on the move with Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Active Steering Assist engaged. Can now unlock the doors when the vehicle is stationary to allow first aid responders immediate access to the vehicle's interior. With available mbrace® Secure, the system simultaneously makes an emergency call
• Active Lane Change Assist is a radar-and-camera-based system that aids the driver when changing lanes. When a turn is indicated, this feature will aid with steering into the adjacent lane if it detects the lane is empty
• Active Speed Limit Assist can adapt vehicle speed to identified speed limits and can now adjust preemptively when speed limits are going to change
• Route-Based Speed Adaptation the vehicle is now able to reduce the speed in anticipatory mode by referencing the COMAND map data ahead of bends, junctions, roundabouts, toll booths and exit roads.
• Active Brake Assist with Cross-Traffic Function
• Evasive Steering Assist this system assists by adding calculated steering torque to aid in steering wheel movement when a driver deliberately or instinctively performs an evasive maneuver around a pedestrian
• Active Blind Spot Assist is active at a wider range of speeds and informs the driver to help avoid an imminent side impact by single-sided braking
• Active Lane Keeping Assist is active now at a wider range of speeds
• Car-to-X communication is a system in which the vehicle simultaneously acts as a receiver and transmitter, conveying warning messages and evaluating driving conditions, effectively allowing the driver to "see" much further down the road
• PRE-SAFE® PLUS activates the PRE-SAFE safety measures when a collision from behind is imminent
• PRE-SAFE® Sound omits a short interference signal if an imminent collision is detected, triggering a protective reflex in the human ear referred to as the "stapedius reflex," which can help reduce hearing loss in the event of an accident
• PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side: if a lateral collision is detected, the system preventatively moves the driver or front passenger up to 2.75-inches away from the impact zone to the side by rapidly inflating the seat’s side bolster, reducing the load on the occupant during an accident
• Touch Control Buttons are touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel for easy control of the instrument cluster and multimedia system, similar to a smartphone interface, which responds to vertical and horizontal swiping movements
• New generation of COMAND multimedia system with dual 12.3" high-resolution displays with single bonded glass panel
• ENERGIZING Comfort: enhanced health and wellness functionality boosts drivers’ attentiveness and well-being while reducing sleepiness and stress
• AIR BODY CONTROL: available multi-chamber air suspension at all corners
