Technical Highlights

• AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension with hydraulic roll stabilization: Premiering in the new SL (standard with SL 63, optional with SL 55), the system enables optimum turn-in and load-change behavior with AMG-typical handling characteristics in terms of dynamics, precision and feedback for the driver. The biggest innovation: active hydraulic elements replace the conventional mechanical anti-roll bars and compensate for rolling movements of the new SL in fractions of a second. At the same time, it increases ride comfort when driving straight ahead and when negotiating bumps.
• Front Axle Lift: The hydraulics of the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension also feed the optional lift system for the front axle. If necessary, the front end lifts by 1.2 inches, making it easier to enter steep driveways or drive over speed bumps, for example. The lift system is operated via the multimedia central display or the AMG steering wheel buttons. The corresponding menu opens after pressing the area with the vehicle symbol on the control bar. Among other things, a position at which the lift system is used can be stored using GPS technology so that the front end of the vehicle is raised automatically when it passes the corresponding point again.
• Rear-Axle Steering: The standard rear-axle steering system is precisely tuned to the new SL, enabling agile and stable handling in equal measure. Depending on the speed, the rear wheels steer either in the opposite direction of the front wheels (up to 62 mph) or in the same direction as the front wheels (over 62 mph), facilitating easier vehicle control at the limits and less steering effort with a more direct front-wheel steering ratio. At low speeds the toe angle change is up to 2.5 degrees at the rear wheel, reducing the turning circle from approx. 43 feet to approx. 40.4 feet.
• AMG Performance 4MATIC+ All-Wheel Drive: For the first time in its almost 70-year history, the SL is equipped with a drive system acting on all four wheels (standard). This intelligent system combines the advantages of different drive concepts: the fully variable torque distribution to the front and rear axles ensures optimal traction right up to the physical limit. The driver is also able to rely on high handling stability and a high level of safety under all conditions.
• Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX): A revolutionary multimedia system featuring innovative technology based on Artificial Intelligence and an intuitive operating system. MBUX is pioneering a new level of in-car experience. The system can be operated by a new generation of Voice Control, the center touchscreen, and/or by the Touch Control Buttons on the steering wheel. The system has learning capabilities and intelligent Voice Control with Natural Language Understanding and a verbal cue of "Hey Mercedes."
• Augmented Video for Navigation: When the navigation function is active, a video image of the surroundings is enhanced with arrows or house numbers automatically superimposed directly onto the image in the media display.
• Driver Assistance Systems: The latest driver assistance technology including intelligent hands- off detection includes:
  • with Route-Based Speed Adaptation: the vehicle is able to reduce the speed in anticipatory mode by referencing map data ahead of curves, junctions, roundabouts, toll booths and exit roads.
  • with Active Emergency Stop Assist: brakes the vehicle to a stop in a controlled manner when the system recognizes that the driver is distracted for a longer period or cannot intervene.
  • and Active Lane Change Assist: assists the driver in a convenient and cooperative manner when making lane changes.
  • with Exit Warning: offers enhanced protection when getting out of the car, a visual warning for passengers displayed in the exterior mirror if a car or bicycle is driving past the vehicle. If the driver tries to open the door, an additional audible warning sound and ambient door lighting will start to flash red.
• Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® is an adaptive cruise control system that is able to automatically adjust your set speed for traffic ahead.
• Active Stop-and-Go Assist is able to keep the vehicle within the lane and maintain a safe distance with a high level of availability at speeds up to 35 mph. With the extended restart function, the vehicle can restart automatically up to one minute after coming to a stop.
• Active Steering Assist generates steering torque which helps the driver to stay in the center of the lane on straight roads and slight bends, taking its guidance from vehicles ahead and lane markings
• Active Brake Assist with Cross-Traffic Function is able to help the driver avoid impending collisions with vehicles ahead, or when turning across the oncoming lane, the system will also assist with stationary or crossing vehicles and pedestrians, if the driver fails to take action quickly enough.
  • Turn-off function of Active Brake Assist: activation of Active Brake Assist with Cross-Traffic Assist when turning across the opposite lane. If there is a risk of collision when turning across the path of oncoming vehicles, the vehicle will be braked when traveling at low speeds.
• Active Speed Limit Assist with Traffic Sign Assist utilizes map data and information from Traffic Sign Assist to automatically adapt the vehicle's speed.
• Active Blind Spot Assist is able to provide the driver with a visual alert, plus an audible alarm when a turn indicator is activated, to warn the driver if another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area. It can also help avoid a collision by single-sided braking if a lane change is still attempted with an obstacle in the blind spot.
• Active Lane Keeping Assist is able to warn the driver by means of vibrations of the steering wheel when the vehicle is unintentionally drifting out of its lane. If the vehicle passes over a solid line, or a dashed line when opposing traffic is detected, this system can pull the vehicle back into its lane by applying the brakes on one side.
• Car-to-X Communication is a system in which the vehicle simultaneously acts as a receiver and transmitter, conveying warning messages and evaluating driving conditions, effectively allowing the driver to "see" much further down the road.
• Active Parking Assist with PARTRONIC and Surround View System make it possible to enter and leave parallel and end-on parking spaces automatically.
• PRE-SAFE® PLUS with PRE-SAFE® Sound activates the PRE-SAFE safety measures when a collision from behind is imminent as well as applying the brakes when the vehicle is at a standstill in order to prevent subsequent accidents. PRE-SAFE® Sound emits a short interference signal if an imminent collision is detected, triggering a protective reflex in the human ear referred to as the "stapedius reflex," which can help reduce hearing loss in the event of an accident.
